Church Closing
This past Sunday morning we announced that we would be closing the doors at West Lonsdale Baptist Church this coming Sunday. That's right when people show up this Sunday morning they won't be able to get into the building. Now don't panic, it is not because we have gone broke (contrary to popular opinion) or that we just don't have the ability or numbers to continue on. It is because over the last couple of weeks we have been learning about living a life of service. Let's face it there a few things we can be certain of:
1) This world is not always a pleasant place
2) People are suspicious of the church
3) Many people don't understand what a "relationship" with Christ is all about
This Sunday we are going to take step one in trying to remedy these three things. We are taking the church to the streets. That's right no Sunday School, no worship service just our members, their blue jeans and t-shirts and a city to be served. In lieu of regular services we will be doing various acts of service such as cleaning city parks for the Department of Parks and Recreation, taking food to those who are sitting and waiting for any word from doctors in area hospital waiting rooms and cleaning the streets in our local neighborhoods. We are going to take our shot at making this world a better place, presenting the church as an organism that is here to better our city and help it's citizens and by demonstrating that a relationship in Christ, while sometimes may "inconvenience" us, will lead us to love our neighbors.
It is going to be a day like no other in the history of WLBC and I am so excited about it. Imagine it with me 150- 200 people just doing what they can for an unsuspecting city. Sound exciting? Join us this Sunday at 9:00. And keep your eyes peeled, we just might SERVE you.
