Easter Sunday
What an amazing weekend it was at West Lonsdale Baptist Church. The weekend began on Friday with our neighborhood Eggstravaganza, with over 130 people from our community coming out to celebrate Easter. Thank you to all of our WLBC family that worked so tirelessly to make this a great event. Then Sunday rolled around. We saw the biggest crowd we have seen in some time in the worship center here. I am not sure of the exact number but there wasn't an empty seat in the house it seemed. More importantly than that was the spirit, not one of doing our duty and showing up for Easter Sunday but a true spirit of worship. Our people were excited about being there and poured there hearts into celebrating our risen savior. Our worship pastor Jeff lead our services as we sang from Travis Cottrell's Alive Forever and it was a true worship experience. In the midst of the songs we drew the picture of the sacrifice of Christ. Luke Daily spoke first and he did better than I could ever have expected. What a great young man he is. He spoke of how Easter is all about emptiness - Christ's life being empty of sin, the cross being empty of His life and the tomb being empty for He had risen. I followed at two other points in the service by looking at how out of all of the people around Jesus in that closing week the only ones who demonstrated a true sense of worship were those we found in the shadow of the cross gazing at His sacrifice. Finally we looked at how Christ is the object of our worship because He is what we can never be... Resurrected Perfection. Our worship is wasted on that which we can be, an athlete, an author or actor, doctor or teacher, it should be devoted to the one who is what we can not be equal to. For me this Easter was about that reality, the obect of our worship - the Risen Savior. Thank you West Lonsdale for making it a great day. Hearts were changed and we are moving forward in His name.
