Watching the fire

By Todd
I love a good fire in the fireplace. In our house we love a good fire so much that we built a bookcase and a mantle around the fireplace to enhance the enjoyment off a fire in our fireplace. Tonight as I have been watching a good fire I have noticed that it burns so beautifully for a while, bright and vibrant with lots of sound, crackling and popping. After a little while though it looses some of its luster. The flames aren't as big, the colors as vibrant and the popping becomes more of a sizzle. When that happens guess what I do? That's right, I go to the porch and grab another log and throw it on the fire and then I watch it catch back up. Without the new wood the fire would go out. In other words there has to be fuel added or the fire dies. What a truth for our hearts and lives. Without adding fuel to our Christian life the fire of our heart will begin to dim and fade. That fire starts so bright and vivid but the world dowses it with water and tries to cool the coals. We can keep it going though by adding fuel through Bible study, church fellowship, prayer and service. By putting ourselves in a position to allow God to use us and see Him work we will keep that fire burning throughout this life.

"My ears are filled with the sounds of promise:
'Good people will prosper like palm trees,
Grow tall like Lebanon cedars;
transplanted to God's courtyard,
They'll grow tall in the presence of God,
lithe and green, virile still in old age.'"
Psalm 92:12-13
