Here is a little look at SERVED
Today at church we showed this video. We had some great live video we wanted to add to this show but that got stolen with the camera on Monday night. The break in has left our kids a little shaken. Dalton wanted to know what would happen if they broke into our house. I assured him that daddy would be there and would take care of him. His response, "I wish we still had Mickey Mouse." Mickey Mouse was our cat who passed away a few months ago...he didn't even have claws and this is Dalton's protector. I guess we are all just looking for a hero, his just happens to be a clawless cat. Really that is what this whole weekend is about, heroes. We looked this morning in worship at that subject, remembering those who gave all. We looked at how Stephen was willing to give all for the cause of Christ just as those heroes who have fallen defending our nation. Heroes like MSG Gary Gordon and SFC Randy Shughart who died in Mogadishu in 1993 defending Cliff Wolcott from a crowd of hundreds of angry Somalis. Knowing that help would not come they roped in and fought to their death defending the ideas of the United States and a brother in arms. In the same light Stephen was so willing to trade his own life for the rights of all those who would follow to trust in Christ. We looked at how those who are willing to give all have some qualities in common:
- They are willing to do the right thing
- They are willing to face the unknown thing
- They are willing to give everything
As we take this weekend to remember those who have given all I hope it will become a time that inspires you. Just as remembering those who have fallen in service of our country will hopefully inspire you to be a better American then maybe remebering those men and women from the first century to those who still today are giving their lives for our faith today will inspire us to do more for our God.
Have a great Memorial Day!
